Jet Airways – India has acquired almost 100 aircraft in their operational fleet in fewer than twenty years of operation. They fly some of the world’s most advanced and sophisticated passenger airliners in the world. For instance, in their fleet are ten Boeing 777-300 ER (Extended Range) aircraft. The fleet also includes over 50 of the Boeing 737 next generation airliners which include the 700/800/900 aircraft. The omnipresent Airbus A330-200 carriers are also operated by Jet Airways. Because the company is young, it could have chosen to buy older aircraft. However, they did not and therefore the company is considered to have one the youngest air carrier fleets in the entire global aviation community.
Due to the decline of global economic conditions in the last decade, Jet Airways along with all the other commercial airlines have had to take serious measures. San Francisco California, London, Brussels and Shanghai are places where the company had to suspend flight operations. The expansion of the service destinations had been in the works until those measures were announced. All expansion ideas have been placed on indefinite hold, but they aren’t on permanent hold. A good deal of re-purposing of company assets was necessary which included leasing aircraft, canceling orders for new aircraft and other measures.
In April of 2007, Jet Airways bought Air Sahara, which you now know as JetLite, for around $340M USD.
It was only a little bit more than a year after that, in 2008′s summer, that the plans for folding JetLite into the parent company were made public. In the aviation industry this is a common practice. In the beginning, the intention was to have JetLite service the lower budgeted clientele in India. It’s true that Jet Airways have certainly served this particular market well. When you consider the huge population of India, and while many are severely impoverished, there remains a sizable percentage for whom that type of service would be of benefit.
A extensive history of pouring it’s wealth into its home country, Jet Airways believes in giving back to the community.
Being situated in India brings a loyalty from the company which helps them to feel more committed to their country. The Yellow Rose campaign was first presented in 1998. This campaign brought about the theory that people should be treated with due care and help as a flower gardener calls for. To that end, the company has made significant contributions ever since in times of need and various disasters. Not limiting themselves to giving to their customers, but to community members as well, it is certainly very important to this company.
Jet Airways India isn’t yet twenty years old but it’s growing at an incredible rate and has innovative management and aggressive marketing plans. When you consider the monumental issues facing India as a collective society, it is to the credit of the founders of Jet Airways that they have progressed as far as they have.
